Bitumen or acrylic emulsion and membrane waterproofing system

Bitumen and acrylic membrane systems are essentially the same, only the substrate (membrane) and moisture proof material are different. Acrylic is used if the customer needs to paint over the product, otherwise the bitumen membrane system is used.

  1. Clean and prepare surface = remove all flaking or loose paint products.
  2. Paint on a layer of required product(Acrylic or Bitumen).
  3. Cut required size of membrane.
  4. Place membrane on painted surface.
  5. Turn back half of membrane and paint product onto interface side of membrane.
  6. Replace membrane on surface - repeat for other half of membrane.
  7. Paint a top coat over all of the membrane.
  8. Leave surface to dry possibly over night.
  9. Paint on third coat of product.
  10. For UV sensitive areas, a Silva cote UV protective coat can be applied over the membrane system.
  11. Every 2 years the surface should be repainted with the approved product.

Horizontal Cementitious DPC with membrane. (Duraflex or Semflex)

  1. Strip existing floor to base concrete (Slab).
  2. Throw levelling Cement screed.
  3. Cut membrane to size.
  4. Impregnate membrane fully.
  5. Apply impregnated membrane to surface and include lap into water drain outfall.
  6. Paint further coat of cementitious slurry to surface.
  7. Leave to dry = approx. 4 h before one can walk on the surface.
  8. Tiles can be fitted to surface = use standard tile repair products.

Luminous Dye test

  1. Decide on target area.
  2. Build sand and wooden support wall.
  3. Mix down Aloe-Vera Luminous dye and fill dam with dye.
  4. Top up dam if necessary.
  5. Leave Dye for period of hours.
  6. Check area below dye for florescent reflection with UV lamp.

Shower leak (Duraflex or Semflex)

  1. Remove all tiles in the shower area.
  2. Repair damage plumbing if required.
  3. Change out odour trap on outfall pipe.
  4. Install Vertical damp proof course - Cementitious crystallising osmosis barrier on the walls and on base of shower.
  5. Install plaster on top of DPC.
  6. Float to prepare for tile's installation.
  7. Install tiles as per customer supply

Test for Moisture in Solid substrate

  1. Protimeter C Surveymaster made by GEC is used to determine moisture in walls.
  2. Moisture ingress up 15 mm deep is possible.
  3. Digital scale WME ( Wood Moisture Equivalent) % 0 > 99.9
  4. Actual Moisture in Substrate 6 > 30 %
  5. GREEN , YELLOW and RED is used to quickly determine degree of moisture in wall. The instrument also has Audible scale

Torch on (Index Unigum)

  1. Strip existing floor to base concrete (Slab).
  2. Throw levelling Cement screed.
  3. Prepare surface by painting on Primer.
  4. Install Torch on.
  5. Apply torch on or bitumen membrane to drain outfall. Ensure perfect seal of pipe.
  6. Counter lap torch on up walls and parapets.
  7. Perform luminous dye penetration test.
  8. Install slip sheet.
  9. Throw cement sand screed with fall to drains.
  10. Float surface to Customer requirement.
  11. Possibly install new tiles.

Vertical DPC (Duraslurry)

  1. Strip walls of wet plaster.
  2. Install Vertical Damp Proof Course - Cementitious crystallising osmosis barrier.
  3. Install plaster on top of V DPC.
  4. Float plaster to surface preparation of neighbour surface.
  5. Dura slurry takes up to 21 days to fully cure.
